The New York City Rescue Mission’s (NYCRM) purpose is to provide help and hope to the hungry, homeless, and hurting men and women of New York City. Our vision is to end the cycle of chronic homelessness by helping our guests, first, to survive and, ultimately, to thrive. The NYCRM is the oldest shelter in the United States (est. 1872) and over 300 shelters across the nation have direct lineage to us. We are pioneers and thought leaders in the fight against poverty and homelessness. Our innovative THRIVE Program, the first of its kind in NYC, comprises a three fold approach to combating episodic and chronic homelessness: Emergency Food & Shelter, Workforce Readiness, and Workforce Development. The Mission is an inclusive organization, serving all individuals in need, no matter their religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, and language. All of our guests are invited to receive spiritual guidance, counseling and mentorship in the study of scripture.
