Orphan Care Alliance (OCA) equips, connects and mobilizes Christians to serve all vulnerable children and families. Our vision is for the Body of Christ to lead the efforts of caring for the foster care and adoptive community in Kentucky and southern Indiana.
Orphan Care Alliance aims to lower the number of children entering state care through our Family Preservation program which intervenes at the first sign of issues with the ultimate goal of keeping the family together. We partner with Mom and/or Dad or Guardian to work through whatever it may be that puts the child at risk of entering state care giving them the relationships and resources they need to be a happy and healthy family.
For the kids already in state care, OCA has two programs to help change their life trajectory and reverse the cycle of homelessness, incarceration, untimely death or having children of their own that enter into state care. First, through our Family Support Program, OCA provides training for adoptive parents to prepare them for the adoption process, educate them on the different avenues to adoption as well as proven methods to best care for their adopted children. OCA, in a partnership with Lifesong for Orphans, offers grants and loans as well as Fundraising help to adoptive parents to help the financial burden that adoptive parents often face. For kids in foster care waiting for adoption or reunification, OCA offers training, respite care and wrap around support for foster families to help provide a positive and healthy experience for both them and the children entrusted in their care. Second, through our Life Coaching program, OCA provides a mentor starting around age 12. This provides a consistent and positive relationship and someone to lean on and learn from to help them transition into adulthood and life after state care.
OCA also helps meet the tangible needs of vulnerable children and families around the adoptive and foster communities through an online portal called OCA Gateway. State workers and OCA staff post the needs of hurting children and families to a community of people with a heart to serve this population. OCA Gateway Volunteers agree to meet the need and are connected to the state worker or OCA staff to do so.
