Sonrise Ministries Inc. is a Christ-centered nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ while serving vulnerable children and communities in eastern Uganda. As a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) organization, Sonrise provides financial, operational, and ministry support to four outreach programs operating under two Ugandan-registered nonprofit organizations: Sonrise Baby Home, Sonrise Children’s Home, Mirembe Cottage for Girls, and Melchizedek Pastoral & Church Planting Ministry. Through these ministries, we rescue and care for vulnerable children, strengthen families, equip church leaders, and promote sustainable community development.
At Sonrise Baby Home in Kayunga District, infants and young children suffering from abandonment, malnutrition, neglect, and other life-threatening circumstances receive loving care, medical treatment, nutritional rehabilitation, and family tracing services. During 2025, the ministry cared for 151 babies and young children while working toward family reunification and long-term placement whenever possible. Community outreach programs, medical initiatives, and agricultural projects further strengthen families and improve child well-being throughout the region.
Sonrise Children’s Home in Kamuli District provides residential care, Christian discipleship, education, healthcare, and family reintegration services for vulnerable children. The ministry also operates Community Christian Nursery and Primary School and supports students attending secondary school. During 2025, the ministry provided residential care for 81 children, successfully reunified 19 children with their families, supported 26 students in secondary education, and provided medical care through a clinic that treated more than 2,700 patient cases.
Mirembe Cottage for Girls in Buikwe District rescues and restores vulnerable girls through residential care, education, discipleship, vocational training, and transitional support programs. The ministry also operates schools serving more than 600 students from both the ministry and surrounding communities, helping equip young women and children for productive, Christ-centered futures.
Through Melchizedek Pastoral & Church Planting Ministry, Sonrise trains pastors and church leaders, plants churches, and strengthens Christian communities throughout Uganda. Since 2016, approximately 350 pastors and ministry leaders have graduated from the ministry’s training program, with more than 120 currently enrolled. During 2025, the ministry planted three new churches, constructed two church buildings, and established a community water well serving approximately 1,000 people.
To promote long-term sustainability, Sonrise invests in agriculture, livestock, education, healthcare, and community infrastructure across its programs. Through partnerships with churches, volunteers, sponsors, and mission teams, Sonrise Ministries continues to bring hope, care, discipleship, and opportunity to vulnerable children, families, and communities while advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Uganda.
