Carriage Town Ministries (CTM) is a safe haven for those who are homeless. It is also a catalyst for individuals and families in Genesee County who want to navigate the pathway out of poverty. We provide basic needs – food, clothing, and shelter – along with a comprehensive Personal Success Program of mentoring and job readiness services for income stability and independent living. Our research indicates that men, women, and children who are homeless need a safe, secure, encouraging place to land when they are desperate. They need assistance in reconstructing a social support structure (family, church, friends). They need mentored programs that help them achieve a sustainable, dependable income stream through employment, assistance or a combination of both. CTM provides managed care and mentoring designed to help achieve these objectives. We began in 1950 as the Flint Rescue Mission on the banks of the Flint River at Grand Traverse Street. In response to the calling of Matthew 25:35, to minister to the hungry, the thirsty, and those without a place to stay, individuals and area churches have supported our efforts throughout the years. Our name was changed to Carriage Town Ministries when, in 1988, the ministry was moved to its present location at 605 Garland Street. Rev. Dr. Dallas W. Gatlin has been the Executive Director for the past 10 years. Under his leadership, the Personal Success Plan has developed into a successful mentoring program. In 2019 75 individuals participated. Our mission is to provide help, hope and the Good News to our community through the skills and means of God’s people and the transforming power of Christ’s love—to provide a clean, orderly, safe, and encouraging place to land for those who are desperate for housing, food, clothing, and other basic needs. We provide front-line health services to address immediate needs and guide clients into the health care services around Flint and Genesee County.

We provide food, drink, clothing, shelter, and free clinic services each week to those in need. The Gospel of Christ is taught daily through word, deed, devotionals and church services. Residents are also given the chance to create a Personal Success Plan. This is a goal-oriented program that enables individuals to grow spiritually, academically, and vocationally through mentoring, work experience, and life skills. Support CTM as we continue to provide this program to those in need!
