The Great Lakes District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance is a nonprofit religious organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 as amended and is exempt from federal income tax under the provisions of Section 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. It functions as a district of The Christian and Missionary Alliance whose principle office is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is subject to the purposes, usages, doctrines, and teachings of The Christian and Missionary Alliance. Each district entity is autonomous and separately managed. The purpose of the Great Lakes District, which was incorporated in November of 1987, is to serve churches and official workers in its geographical area. Oversight is provided by the District's executive committee ("the board").

The Great Commission Fund (GCF) gives Alliance people the opportunity to reach a lost world with the hope of Jesus. It gives missionaries and other C&MA workers the freedom to answer their call to ministry without the worry of fund-raising.
