Webinar Speakers

Mike Batts
Mike Batts is the managing partner of Batts Morrison Wales & Lee (BMWL) and has more than 30 years of experience serving nonprofit organizations in a variety of ways. He has served on and chaired the boards of nonprofit organizations – both nationally and locally. Mike is a member and former chairman of the board of ECFA, an organization that accredits Christian organizations in the areas of board governance and financial integrity. Mike regularly advises nonprofit organizations on matters related to board governance, financial oversight, tax compliance and strategy, risk management, corporate structure, international activities, and other related topics. He has also actively engaged in nonprofit legislative matters at the federal and state levels. Mike has authored several books, his most recent being Church Finance: The Church Leader’s Guide to Financial Operations (Christianity Today, 2019). Mike is licensed or authorized to practice as a CPA in multiple states across the U.S. and he is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant.

Frank Sommerville
Frank Sommerville is a shareholder in the law firm of Weycer, Kaplan, Pulaski & Zuber, P.C. in Houston and Dallas, Texas. Mr. Sommerville handles and assists in a broad range of legal cases which encompasses employment law and ERISA issues as well as nonprofit and religious organizations in disputes with former employees regarding benefit plans, retirement plans, employee discipline and termination.
Mr. Sommerville is Board Certified in Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and holds a license as a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of the American Bar Association. He is a frequent lecturer on nonprofit issues at the University of Texas Law School's Annual Nonprofit Organizations Conferences and the State Bar of Texas Governance of Nonprofit Organizations Courses, including acting as Chair for 2011. He regularly assists churches in preventing litigation, including those that originate with accusations of sexual misconduct.
Continuing Education Credit

CEU - The Church Network Credit: ECFA is a National Registered Continuing Education Provider (NRCEP) with The Church Network. This program is a premier comprehensive continuing education program related to administration in the local church. It is designed to enhance the ongoing professional development of The Church Network members and other ministry professionals, through the offering of quality learning experiences. 0.1 CEUs will be granted to persons who properly register and attend one contact hour of a minimum of 50 minutes of lecture, presentation, or discussion on approved topics.
