Federal Appeals Court Finds State Regulators Are Entitled to Donor Disclosure

In a recent ruling, the Second Circuit federal appeals court affirmed the requirement for nonprofits to provide an unredacted Schedule B including donor disclosures to New York state charity regulators.

The nonprofit group Citizens United had raised constitutional challenges against this sort of disclosure to the New York Charities Bureau. The appeals court ruling in favor of the charity regulators would presumably extend to other states within the court’s jurisdiction that may require such disclosure.
