Atheists Throw in the Towel on Housing Allowance

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has conceded defeat in its latest legal challenge to the minister’s housing allowance.

This welcome news for pastors and churches comes from a June 14 press statement by FFRF announcing it would not pursue further appeals in the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. Back in March, the housing allowance scored a major victory when the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against FFRF, issuing a strong decision in support of this longstanding provision in the tax code.

ECFA has been actively monitoring developments in the case and participated in an “amicus” (friend of the court) brief before the Seventh Circuit in support of the housing allowance.
