IRS Issues Form 990 Reminders Regarding Deadline and Protecting Donors' Personal Information

The IRS issued a reminder this week to tax-exempt organizations that operate on a calendar year for tax purposes that the deadline to file Form 990-series information returns is May 15, 2018.

Organizations are also cautioned not to include Social Security Numbers on the Form 990. The IRS and most tax-exempt organizations are required by law to publicly disclose most of the information on the Form 990’s, and thus SSNs and other identifying personal data about donors should be excluded.

More details can be found in the IRS Instructions for Form 990.
